Share your significant trees

Wangaratta’s remarkable trees will be captured in a new online register launched by Council.

The interactive significant tree register will showcase trees of important historical, social and horticultural heritage in and around Wangaratta.

It has been developed as part of the Tree Management Plan adopted by Council in April.

Council is encouraging community nominations for the register, with the aim of it being a largely community driven resource.

“In Wangaratta and district we have some amazing trees, including a large variety of significant native trees as well as European trees,” Jason Askew - Supervisor Arboriculture said.

“One of the Plane trees at the end of Baker Street has one of the largest trunk circumferences in Victoria.

“If you know of a significant tree, we want to know about it, and we want to know the story behind it.”

All nominations must meet the selection criteria defined on the nomination form and will be reviewed by the Tree Management Steering Group at bi-monthly meetings.
