Pitcher This - place making events and activities

What is place making?

Place making is about creating fun and imaginative public spaces, events and gatherings that are loved by locals and admired by visitors. Place making is about thinking outside the box to make your community smile:

Do you have a drab wall that needs a mural or a vertical garden?

Does the entrance into your sporting ground need sprucing up?

Would you just love to have a teddy bear picnic, or a clothes swap day and BBQ within your community?

Winning pitches will be decided by community voting, with prize money awarded to enable them to come to life as real places within the community!

Pitcher This Event Launch

In April we are going to hold a LAUNCH EVENT at the Vine Hotel!

Three rural sports clubs, community groups, or schools will be invited to make a pitch on the night.

On this special night the winning pitch will receive $1500 to bring their idea to life! And because this is the launch event, each of the three pitches chosen to present on the night will be guaranteed $500.

Pitcher This activities, events and workshops will run across our region as launch pads for community place making ideas that surprise, excite and inspire.

November 2021 - February 2022: Messages to make Wangaratta Smile

Some people in our community are doing it tough. When we feel flat, a kind word can make a big difference to how we feel. That’s why Yarrunga Primary School students and the Rural City of Wangaratta’s Youth Council are on a mission to share messages that will lift the spirits of the community and “make Wangaratta smile!” The “messages to make Wangaratta smile” installation is supported by Pitcher This and will be displayed at Coles Wangaratta from 5 November 2021.

Previous activity: Youth Council & Pitcher This Book Exchange

In November 2021 the Wangaratta Youth Council ran a book exchange for young people in our community with support from Pitcher This. The event was a great way to swap a book or two, grab a picnic rug and to catch up with friends in the great outdoors.
