Mitchell Avenue Reserve to take a new shape

An off leash dog park, children’s garden and a mountain bike pump track are part of an exciting proposal to transform the Mitchell Avenue Reserve in Wangaratta.

Based on community feedback from extensive consultation early last year, the Rural City of Wangaratta has developed a draft masterplan that details proposed improvements to the popular reserve.

While the original consultation focused on community priorities for the former Yarrunga Pool site, the plan has been expanded to focus on reinvigorating the entire Mitchell Avenue precinct.

Mayor Ken Clarke OAM says the draft masterplan capitalises on existing facilities and identifies opportunities within the reserve to create a unique experience for the residents of Wangaratta to enjoy.

“The Mitchell Avenue Reserve is a great community space in need of a makeover,” he says.

“We are confident that the outcome will deliver a place for families that is well utilised and meets diverse needs and priorities.”

Council’s Projects and Recreation Team have been spending time with students and teachers at primary schools across the city over the past few weeks to gain feedback on the plan.

All community members are invited to a community consultation session at ‘Party in the Park’ which will be held at the Mitchell Avenue Reserve on Thursday 5 April 2018 from 10am – 12pm. You can also have your say on the plans through the avenues below.

Also included in the plan is an exercise station and increased shade and seating.
