Annual Schools Tree Day celebrations
Published on 10 June 2025
Each year we celebrate Schools Tree Day by offering all local schools in the Rural City of Wangaratta 50 free native indigenous plants to plant at school. These plants provide a hands-on learning opportunity for students, help to improve habitat for local wildlife and beautify the school grounds. This year the Environment & Sustainability team will sort and deliver 850 plants with guards to 17 schools across the municipality.
In addition to the plant give away we also run an annual planting event for schools. Students and teachers enjoy the opportunity to learn more about local biodiversity and contribute to revegetation projects. This year we have 150 students from five schools joining us to continue extending the habitat corridor created over the last few years along the Rail Trail at Tarrawingee.
