Why is the service closing?

The decision to close was made due to a significant decline in the number of Family Day Care Educators and enrolled children which has resulted in the service operating at a financial loss.

When will the service close?

The North East Family Day Care Service will close on 1 January 2026. Although Educators last week of care would be Friday 19th of December.

How many families and educators are affected?

Currently, the service supports eight educators and approximately 40 families.

What happens to my child’s care arrangements?

Council will work with families to minimise disruption. Some children may be accommodated within Council’s existing Children’s Services. Families will also receive information about alternative care options.

Can educators continue in the Family Day Care program?

Yes. Educators who wish to remain in the program will be supported to transfer to another provider.

Will families receive help finding new care?

Council will provide guidance and contacts for other Family Day Care providers and local Early Childhood Education and Care options.
