WORKS COMMENCING 14 FEBRUARY

Major upgrades to the Wangaratta Sports and Aquatic Centre (WSAC) are set to commence on Monday 14 February following a contractor delay due to supply chain issues.

Rural City of Wangaratta received a $5.46 million grant from the State Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Fund for the project.

The project will include additional multipurpose courts, an upgraded show court to competition-level, a gym expansion almost doubling the existing size, and improved accessibility to existing change rooms and amenities within the facility.

Initial works begin with upgrades over the next six weeks to the existing changerooms and toilets to improve accessibility.

“There will be some disruption to the usage of the family accessible change rooms as well as the male and female change rooms and patrons will be directed to alternative amenities within the facility during this time,” Rural City of Wangaratta Director Infrastructure Services Marcus Goonan said.

“Extensive stakeholder consultation with local sporting clubs and WSAC staff has been carried out throughout the design process,” he said.

WSAC Manager Penny Hargrave said that the new amenities will be welcomed by all users of the centre.

“The long-term improvements will far outweigh the short-term disruptions,” WSAC Manager Penny Hargrave said.

The main package of works including the two additional multipurpose courts, show court upgrade and gym expansion will be tendered in March 2022 with expansion works expected to commence in May 2022 with completion in March 2023.
