Wangaratta to host climate forum

The 2023 Goulburn Murray Climate Leaders Forum will bring a series of speakers from the political, legal, health, financial, public, and private sectors, to discuss the business of climate change from their unique perspectives in Wangaratta.

“Rural City of Wangaratta is thrilled to be participating in, and supporting, the 2023 Goulburn Murray Climate Leaders Forum here in Wangaratta,” said Rural City of Wangaratta Mayor, Councillor Dean Rees.

“The forum will bring experts from a range of sectors together to work on the challenges climate change presents in our region.”

Goulburn Murray Climate Alliance (GMCA) host this inaugural forum which will run as a three-part series that is also supported by the Department of Energy, Environment & Climate Action, Alpine Valleys Community Leadership and North East Catchment Management Authority.

Carole Hammond, GMCA Executive Officer said the forum is designed for decision-makers in local government in our region.

“A collection of informed, experienced speakers will present to participants,” said Ms Hammond.

“We are incredibly pleased that Dr Helen Haines MP, Member for Indi will be joined by Rosemary Bissett, Head of Sustainability Governance & Risk, National Australia Bank and Nina O'Brien, Disaster Resilience & Recovery Lead, FRRR, to name a few.”

“We look forward to bringing leaders and change-makers in our region together to work through the future challenges and opportunities that climate change is affecting.”

The three sessions will be held on Friday 10 March, Friday 24 March and Friday 28 April and will focus on three topics: Advocacy, sponsorship & support in a time of climate change; What is resilience in the face of extreme events; and Governance, legal & risk: implications of climate change.
