Rural City of Wangaratta Awards $166,000 in Community Grants

The Rural City of Wangaratta is proud to announce the allocation of $166,000 in funding to support 40 local community groups and not-for-profit organisations through the 2025–2026 Community Grants Program.

This annual initiative empowers grassroots organisations to deliver projects that enhance accessibility, community resilience, mental health and well-being, cultural engagement, and environmental sustainability across the region.

Funds are used for a broad range of projects - hosting events, providing essential training, equipment purchasing, and infrastructure improvements. This funding round will see, both urban and rural community-based organisations benefit.

This year’s grants that will support a diverse range of initiatives, some highlights:

Accessibility:

  • Disability toilet upgrade at Wangaratta Equestrian Centre
  • Wheelchair-accessible gate at Glenrowan Recreation Reserve

Community Connection:

  • Diwali Festival of Light hosted by North East Multicultural Association
  • Carl Schulz Reserve Storyboards in Moyhu celebrating local history
  • 90th Anniversary Celebrations at Eldorado Memorial Hall

Youth & Education:

  • Intergenerational project between Greta Valley Primary School and aged care residents
  • Digital camera purchase for Wangaratta Auskick to capture and share player moments
  • Noise reduction upgrades at Whorouly & District Preschool to create a safer learning environment

Health & Wellbeing:

  • Establishment of an All-Abilities Swim Squad by Wangaratta Stingrays Swimming Club

Sport & Recreation:

  • Pickleball court upgrades in Tarrawingee and Wangaratta
  • Electronic scoreboard installation at Tarrawingee Football and Netball Club
  • Table tennis equipment upgrade by Wangaratta Table Tennis Association
