Upcoming Works – Swan Street Road Reconstruction
Published on 23 October 2025
The Rural City of Wangaratta has engaged Wangaratta Excavations to undertake road reconstruction works on Swan Street, between Steane Street and the One Mile Creek bridge abutment.
The project will involve full road reconstruction along this section of Swan Street, the installation of new drainage pipes and pits from One Mile Creek to the Larkings Street and Muntz Street intersection.
Harvey Benton, Acting Mayor, Rural City of Wangaratta
“This project has been planned for some time, and with Swan Street identified as one of the most frequently complained about roads in our recent community satisfaction survey, the timing is right to move forward with repairs.”
“Council will work to minimise disruption to residents throughout the duration of the project.”
Traffic Management
- Full road closures will be implemented between the Swan Street Bridge and Steane Street. No through traffic will be permitted during these times.
- When possible, Swan Street will be reopened to through traffic to reduce disruption.
- Residents will be required to access properties via Larkings Street. This access will be maintained throughout the works, with only minimal disruptions expected on certain days.
- Signage and traffic controllers will be in place to guide residents through changed conditions.
- Pedestrian access will be managed through the worksite when necessary. Pedestrians are advised to avoid the area where possible.
