The Australian Government will conduct a national test of AusAlert, Australia's new emergency warning system, on Monday 27 July 2026. AusAlert is designed to send near-instant emergency warnings directly to compatible mobile devices during emergencies such as bushfires, floods and other disasters.

During the test, compatible mobile phones, and some smart watches and tablets, may receive a loud alert accompanied by a siren-like sound, even if devices are set to silent or do not disturb. The message will clearly identify itself as a test. No action is required.

Community members who use hidden safety devices or may be affected by an unexpected alert are encouraged to plan ahead.

To avoid receiving the test alert, devices must be switched off or placed in aeroplane mode before the test.
