Rural City of Wangaratta’s Environment & Sustainability team, in partnership with the Wangaratta Library, has launched two innovative Home Energy Efficiency Kits that are now available for community members to borrow.

These kits are designed to help residents identify opportunities to save on energy and water consumption, making their homes more efficient and sustainable. Each kit includes practical tools and resources that guide users through easy steps to reduce household energy use and lower emissions.

By providing these kits, the Council’s Environment & Sustainability team continues its commitment to supporting the community with hands-on solutions for improving resource management. The initiative not only contributes to reducing local emissions but also complements the educational efforts of local Landcare groups and other community organisations advocating for environmental sustainability.

The kits are free to loan for Wangaratta Library members.

Each kit contains:

  • Ambient temperature thermometer: For testing the optimal temperatures of heating/cooling systems, refrigerators, freezers, and hot water systems.
  • Digital thermometer: Useful for checking temperatures around doorways, windows, and walls to identify gaps and opportunities for better insulation.
  • Water flow measuring cup: To assess the efficiency of taps and showers.
  • Energy monitor: This device plugs into electrical appliances, tracking real-time electricity usage and estimating annual running costs with utility bill information.
  • Home energy efficiency checklist: Offering suggestions for homeowners and renters on ways to save energy.
  • Instruction guide: Detailed instructions on how to use all equipment.
