Free training to support mental wellbeing and social connection is continuing across the Rural City of Wangaratta through Council’s Grit & Resilience Program.

Funded by the Victorian Government’s Department of Health, the program offers a series of practical, evidence‑based workshops aimed at strengthening wellbeing, reducing social isolation and supporting a more resilient community.

The first workshop in the 2026 training series, Introduction to Mental Health Promotion, was held on 17 March and attracted strong community participation. The session focused on practical ways to promote mental health, including key influences on wellbeing and simple strategies that can be applied in community, workplace and volunteer settings.

Grit and Resilience Program Coordinator, Bek Nash-Webster “The first session attracted strong participation and positive feedback, which demonstrates the value of providing practical information people can use in everyday settings.”

Two upcoming workshops will be delivered by Ending Loneliness Together

  • Thursday 7 May | Social Connection 101. This session will explore the causes and impacts of loneliness and provides practical tools to help people build and maintain meaningful social connections.
  • Tuesday 26 May | Creating Micro‑Moments of Connection. Focuses on everyday approaches to strengthening social connection and reducing isolation through small, achievable actions.

As part of the broader program, the Grit & Resilience Program is also offering free access to the SBS Inclusion Program, an online training platform. The self‑paced courses are available online and can be completed at any time.

Limited free licences for the SBS Inclusion Program are available to individuals, workplaces and community groups across the region.

Council’s Grit & Resilience Program aims to provide accessible training opportunities that build community capability and strengthen social connection across Wangaratta.
