National Sorry Day
Next date: Monday, 26 May 2025 | 10:30 AM
to 11:30 AM
In recognition of National Sorry Day, the Rural City of Wangaratta and local Traditional Owners Anita Morgan (nee Cooper) and Kevin Cooper are hosting a cultural inclusion workshop.
It will be held at Sydney Beach on National Sorry Day at 10.30am and feature a smoking ceremony, storytelling and damper making.
The workshop will help you deepen your knowledge of history and build stronger connection with Aboriginal History and National Sorry Day. Anita and Kevin will also be sharing stories of the Stolen Generations.
National Sorry Day is an opportunity for truth-telling, healing and reconciliation.
About National Sorry Day
National Sorry Day is held on 26 May each year, to remember and acknowledge the Stolen Generations and the history of forcible removals and its ongoing impacts.
The date marks the anniversary of the tabling of Bringing them home: Report of the National Inquiry into the Separation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Children from Their Families to the Australian Parliament in 1997.
Sorry Day is an initiative that represents one of the recommendations of the report.
