Event Application

If you are planning or holding an event in Wangaratta, you may need to submit an Event Application. This helps Council understand and support events in our region and ensure they are well-organised, compliant and safe.

The Event Application process is used for a wide range of activities, including small public gatherings to large public events.

Step 1.Call us to check availability

Please contact our Events Team on 03 5722 0888 or via email on events@wangaratta.vic.gov.au to check availability of the space or venue.

Step 2.Review our permit conditions

Please read through the Standard Conditions (PDF, 133KB) that apply to our event permits.

Step 3.Gather your documents

Depending on the event category, you will be required to provide additional documents.

You may also need to apply for additional permits

If your proposed site is over 500m² or it will be enclosed by fencing, then you will need to get a Place of Public Entertainment permit (POPE). Reach out to our Building Team to discuss. Email building@wangaratta.vic.gov.au or call 03 5722 0888

If your event requires people to camp overnight, you will need to apply for Camping Permit. You will also need to submit a separate site plan, Risk Management Plan and Emergency Management plan for the campground and facilities.

Medium to Marquee Event

Copy of your Public Liability Insurance certificate for $20m
Copy of any contractor's Public Liability Insurance certificate for $20m
Risk Management Plan
Risk Management Plan for each of your contractors relating to their works
Emergency Management Plan
Design documents for any temporary structures
Details on any food vendors attending
Liquor licence (if applicable)
Event schedule or running order for live or amplified music events
Site plan showing the area you wish to reserve, placement of infrastructure and other amenities
Traffic Management Plan from a qualified contractor for any road closures required

Lead Times

Remember to submit your application at least:

Public gathering: 14 days prior to the event

Minor event: 30 days prior to the event

Medium event: 30 days prior to the event

Marquee event: 90 days prior to the event

*If you require a POPE, these lead times may vary.

Place of Public Entertainment (POPE)

Some events will require a Place of Public Entertainment (POPE) or Temporary Structure permit.

Risk Management

Risk Assessments should detail any hazards associated with the venue, your event, and behaviour of your event patrons. Council has example templates for risk assessments that may be used as a starting point.

Camping

If you event allows or offers overnight camping on Council owned property, a camping permit is required. These permits will only be issued where approved showers, toilets and laundry facilities are available.
