Beauty business registration

If you’re thinking about setting up one of the following businesses, you will need to register it with us.

  • Hairdressers and barbers
  • Beauty therapy
  • Tattooing
  • Skin penetration
  • Colonic irrigation
  • Teeth whitening

Hairdressers and make up only businesses only need to register once and are not required to renew their registration annually. However if the business changes hands or moves location, you will need to update the registration. 

New business

Step 1.Speak to an Environmental Health Officer

We strongly recommend you speak to one of our Environmental Health Officers about your application. They can give you advice and tips to ensure you complete your application correctly. 

Step 2.Gather your documents

To register your new beauty business, you'll need to submit the following:

You can submit your application to us via:

  • In person: Wangaratta Government Centre, 62 - 68 Ovens Street, Wangaratta

Step 4.Pay the registration fee

Once we have received your application, we will issue you with an invoice for registration. The registration fee is $235.

There is also a $200 new premises inspection fee. 

Step 5.Inspection 

One of our Environmental Health Officers will contact you to discuss your application, and arrange a pre-registration inspection of your premises

Step 6.Approval

Once your premises is compliant, you will be issued with a certificate of registration and can commence trading!

Step 7.Annual renewal and inspection

Beauty therapy and body art businesses will need to renew their registration annually and have their premises inspected each year. The annual registration is $235 and includes the inspection fee. 

Hairdressers and barbers do not require an annual renewal or inspection.

Transfer a business

Step 4.Pay the registration fee

Once we have received your application for transfer, we will issue you with an invoice for registration.

The registration fee is 50% of the usual annual fee. Therefore the fee to transfer is $117.50. There is also a $200 premises inspection fee.
