Disabled parking permits

We offer two disabled parking permits for people with varying levels of disability.

Category 1 (Blue)

Blue permit holders can park for twice as long as indicated by a parking sign upon payment of initial parking fees. e.g. Permit holder may park for 2 hours in a 1 hour parking bay upon payment of the parking fee.

They can also park in reserved disability parking bays.

Category 2 (Green)

Green permit holders can park for twice as long as indicated by a parking sign upon payment of initial parking fees. e.g. Permit holder may park for 2 hours in a 1 hour parking bay upon payment of the parking fee.

  • The permit must be hung from the rear vision mirror or displayed at the left side of the front windscreen, with the expiry date and permit number visible from the outside of the vehicle.
  • A permit is not valid beyond its expiry date or if the expiry date or the permit numbers are not legible.

Category 1 (Blue)

  • A permit holder (driver/passenger) is entitled to park a vehicle in a bay reserved for disabled motorists for the specified time only, or may park a vehicle in an ordinary area or bay for twice (x2) the specified time and upon payment of an initial parking fee (if applicable), as above.
  • The parking entitlements applicable to the permit apply anywhere in Victoria. Reciprocal arrangements between States which have been agreed to by the Australian Transport Advisory Council also apply.
  • When requested by an authorised officer, a driver using the permit must:
    • state his/her name and address;
    • produce his/her driver's licence;
    • produce the relevant disabled person's permit;
    •  show proof that he/she or a passenger in the vehicle is the permit holder; and
    • move the vehicle from the reserved place, if the officer deems that the permit is invalid or that there is insufficient proof that the driver or a passenger in the vehicle is the permit holder.
  •  A driver using the permit must either be the permit holder or must be parking the vehicle for the convenience of the permit holder who needs to enter or leave the vehicle.
  • The permit remains the property of the Rural City of Wangaratta and must be returned within seven days of notification of such return being required.
  • A person may hold only one permit.

Category 2 (Green)

  • A permit holder (driver/passenger) may park a vehicle in an ordinary area or parking bay for twice (x2) the specified time (upon payment of any initial parking fee, if applicable). For example if the parking area is a 1 hour ticket zone, you may park for 2 hours but will only have to pay for 1 hour.
  • You may NOT park in a parking bay specified for disabled motorists only.
