Australia’s premiere 3X3 Basketball competition, Champions League Basketball (3X3 AUS), is coming to Wangaratta JANUARY 10-11 2026 as the highly anticipated 2-day event makes it way to the Wangaratta Sports & Aquatic Centre.

An event aimed at all ages & all abilities, the sport of 3X3 basketball is a great way for people from all over the region to get involved and have some fun. 3X3 Australia have been engaged to bring a festival of 3x3 & their showcourt to the outdoor area at the Wangaratta Sports & Aquatic Centre this summer and showcase the event in a fun, festive & family friendly environment. This event will combine Elite sport with grassroots and to bring you 2 days of 3X3 action along with pre-registered games and free for all participation with their 3- point shoot outs & free shoot arounds, structured games and more.

“We have been travelling around Australia now since 2014, aligning ourselves with key community organisers, councils, event owners and local sporting organisations to provide Junior and Open players with a 3X3 competition emerged in a festive and safe environment for families to attend (as spectators) for free and for players of all ages and skills to participate and play for their chance at prizes and prize money!

Councils and community stakeholders play a big part in what we do, and we are very appreciative of the support we have received over the years. We have seen a real growth over the last decade in 3X3 along with some impressive results in the Olympics, Commonwealth Games & Asia Cups from our own Aussie teams, said Director of Champions League Basketball Matt Hollard.

3X3 appeared as an Olympic discipline in the 2021 Tokyo Olympics with our own Australian Open’s female team into the qualifiers and more recently at the Paris Olympics with our Australian women’s team winning their way through the qualifiers and coming 7th overall. The sport of 3x3 now replaces 5on5 in the Commonwealth Games and offers a magnitude of opportunity to play overseas for your city and country. This is a huge opportunity for past, current and future basketball players to experience another pathway in which they can play at a junior or elite level for their country someday.

Champions League Basketball & 3x3 Australia has also recently returned from Osaka, Japan where 3 Australian teams represented the country and their city (Melbourne, Sydney & Brisbane) at one of the highest levels of the 3X3 competitions in the world, coming away with a 1st, 2nd & 5th place out of 99 teams, 500 players worldwide and secured MVP of the season and MVP of the tournament – a remarkable result for our country.

Endorsed by FIBA, 3x3 is simple and flexible enough to be played anywhere and by anyone. All you need is a hoop, a half-court and six players. The event weekend provides a terrific chance to register with a few mates and give the sport a try for the very first time or as an experienced player.

CLB’s Director and head of events and marketing Yvette Williams says, "The inclusiveness and accessibility of the sport is what excites us the most. With Wangaratta and surrounding areas being such a popular region for basketball we see this first-time event in Wangaratta being a huge success and enjoyed by many whether you are a player or spectator. "

Irene Grant, Rural City of Wangaratta Mayor- “This event is a fantastic opportunity for locals and visitors to come together, enjoy the action, and experience everything the Wangaratta Sports & Aquatic Centre has to offer. Events like this strengthen community spirit and showcase Wangaratta as a leading regional hub for sport and recreation.”

All players have a chance to win great prizes and world ranking points….or you might just want to come along as a spectator and enjoy the atmosphere court side and see the rising talent come out on top during each of the finals. Players can be from anywhere and everywhere and do not need to be part of an existing club or association to participate.

Players can register to compete in a range of competitions over the weekend from a free to community Come n Try Shoot rounds, or as an Opens division player or Juniors player U11’s to U15’s on the Saturday or Sunday.
