Following the bushfires across Victoria in recent days, the Rural City of Wangaratta’s thoughts are with everyone affected in other municipalities. We are in touch with affected Councils and are providing resource assistance where possible.
The Rural City of Wangaratta extends its deepest thanks to the volunteer firefighters of the Country Fire Authority, alongside Victoria Police, Ambulance Victoria, State Emergency Service volunteers and all emergency services responding to the current bushfire emergencies across our state.
It’s a long bushfire season ahead, with impacts already felt locally in recent Markwood fires.
This summer, we encourage residents to stay informed and take steps to remain safe:
Mayor Irene Grant said:
"Our hearts go out to those communities currently facing the devastating impacts of bushfires. We are in regular contact with affected Councils and are providing assistance where we can.
Council stands ready to support our own community if needed, and we urge everyone to stay informed and prioritise safety during this challenging time.”
