Community Forum to Discuss Roads in Wangaratta
Published on 07 November 2025
Residents are invited to attend the Rural City of Wangaratta’s first community Your Roads Forum on Wednesday, 3 December, at Memorial Hall, WPACC, to explore the future of road infrastructure and community engagement in Wangaratta.
The forum will provide a behind-the-scenes look at how Council manages its road network, including the Road Management Plan, road hierarchy, inspection schedules, data collection, and defect response timeframes. Attendees will also learn how to report issues and contribute to shaping future maintenance strategies.
Marcus Goonan, Director – Community & Infrastructure, “This forum is about transparency, education and collaboration. We want residents to understand how we work, what challenges we face, and how they can be part of the solution.”
Key Topics
- Transport Trends Over the Past Decade: Changes in vehicle size, weight and volume—and what that means for our roads.
- Road Condition Insights: Independent data confirms Wangaratta’s roads are in good condition, but continuous improvement remains a priority.
- Climate Change and Infrastructure: Learn how Council is adapting to climate impacts like extreme weather and how funding and insurance mechanisms support resilience.
- Road Maintenance Investment: Discover how much is spent on roads and how recent funding boosts will be used to improve safety and longevity.
- Resident Feedback: A pre-event survey invites residents to nominate the road they’re most concerned about—between specific locations. This data will be used to distinguish between Council and Department of Transport roads and guide future planning.
Interactive Elements
- A community quiz will test local knowledge on transport trends and road spending.
- A satisfaction rating tool will help identify priority areas for improvement.
