Community Consultation on the 2026/2027 Budget
Published on 12 November 2025
Rural City of Wangaratta budget planning for the 2026/27 financial year is currently underway, and community consultation will be open until Monday, 15 December.
Council is continuing the approach introduced last year that prioritises early engagement. This process resulted in the highest number of submissions received during a budget cycle. Consultation will not occur later in the year, ensuring that feedback is gathered at the outset of planning.
Each year, Council prepares a budget that outlines how funds will be raised and allocated to deliver essential services, maintain infrastructure, and support community priorities.
The 2026/2027 Budget will align with key strategic documents including:
- 2025–2029 Council Plan
- 2025–2035 Financial Plan
- Asset Management Plan
- Other Council strategies and masterplans
Community members can choose to take a short survey or make a submission. A survey is available for ranking services in order of importance, so you can advocate for how you think the allocation of council funds should be prioritised. Participants may rank as many or as few services as they choose.
Individuals, organisations and community groups are invited to submit ideas for funding in the 2026/27 Budget. All suggestions will be considered through the same prioritisation process as other projects. Ideas may be adopted, deferred or not proceed, but each submission contributes to informed and balanced decision-making.
Quote from the Mayor, Cr Irene Grant:
"The annual budget reflects the priorities and aspirations of the community. Early engagement ensures that the 2026/27 Budget supports essential services, maintains vital infrastructure, and invests in projects that matter most to residents. Participation in this process helps create a stronger, more sustainable future for Wangaratta."
