River Guardians Day

Platypus conservation and Carp fishing competition.

Come along to Apex Park for a free, fun event showcasing local waterway conservation efforts for Platypus and other native wildlife. Join in the Carp fishing competition with the chance to win great prizes presented by local fishing guru Robbie Alexander. Browse the stalls, learn from local experts, enjoy fun hands-on activities for the whole family and a free BBQ.

Remember to wear suitable footwear, dress for the weather conditions and bring your own water bottle.

This event is delivered in partnership by Rural City of Wangaratta, North East Catchment Management Authority and Ovens Landcare Network as part of the March into Sustainability activity series.

 

Additional Information for Fishing Competition

  • Community members wishing to take part in the carp fishing competition are encouraged to register for the event to receive more details.
  • Those aged between 18 and 70 must obtain a fishing license.
  • Purchase a fishing license from Service Victoria (prices start from $10): https://service.vic.gov.au/find-services/outdoor-and-recreation/buy-a-victorian-recreational-fishing-licence
  • The competition allows for carp to be caught prior to the event at any Rural City of Wangaratta location. Fish caught prior need to be humanely euthanised and kept on ice ready for weigh-in on the event day.
