Splash Park Upgrades
Wangaratta’s Splash Park will be ready for summer with extensive upgrades that have transformed the popular family friendly space.
Increased shade and safety will result from the improvements, with more shade sails, a new perimeter fence, increased soft fall and a tube slide replacing the concrete slide.
Rural City of Wangaratta Field Services Manager, Jamie Reid said the upgrades reflect the community’s requirements.
“We listened to what the community said they wanted at the Splash Park”, he said.
“The amount of shade area will be tripled with 200sqm of additional shade sails installed for kids and their families.
“The area will be fully fenced, using the same black mesh as the adjacent dog park fence and will include a magna latch gates for extra safety.
“We have installed more than 170sq metres of soft fall rubber matting in various colours that will replace the concrete underfoot and brighten the space even more.
“The thing I am most thrilled about is the enclosed tube slide that will have water sprayed inside it, it will replace the previous concrete slide that wrecked a fair few pairs of swimmers during its short lifetime.
“There is also additional bench seating, the ‘log’ wood steps will be removed and replaced with steps made from large flat rocks, new handrails will be installed, and to further improve safety, the mound will be less steep and therefore safer.”
Council’s Field Services have completed the majority of the works in-house, as well as utilising local contractors for specialty jobs.
The splash park is scheduled to open early December 2019.
The Mitchell Avenue Reserve also includes the off-leash dog park that was opened earlier this year, exercise equipment that was installed at the end of 2018 and construction will be begin on the Children’s Garden in 2020.
