Ken Clarke OAM was elected to the City Ward at the 2016 General Elections and was appointed Mayor until November 2018, when he stood down and Cr Dean Rees was elected Mayor.
Ken came to Wangaratta in 1975 for a 3 year period to manage the Wangaratta Credit Union (Now WAW) and has been here ever since.
He is a qualified accountant and in 1998 became a Fellow of CPA Australia. He became a JP in 1976 and served as a Bail Justice for many years in Wangaratta. He represented Victoria in hockey and has had an association with many sports in Wangaratta. In 2011 he was recognised for his service to the community by being awarded an OAM. His passion for the community, saw him elected to Rural City of Wangaratta City Ward in 2016 after a break of 26 years.
He is determined to pursue Economic Development for the City, and whilst he also thinks that we have a great future for Tourism, jobs and economic development will be at the forefront of his wish list over the while on Council. He is widowed and still lives in the family home.
