Glenrowan wins Silver at Victoria’s Top Tourism Town Awards
Published on 20 August 2026
Glenrowan was awarded Silver for Victoria's Top Tiny Tourism Town (population under 1,500) at the Victorian Tourism Industry Council's Tourism Town Awards ceremony last night.
For Glenrowan's first-ever entry into the awards, the result is a significant recognition of the town's tourism offering and rich heritage. It also acknowledges the many community groups, local businesses and volunteers who work tirelessly to preserve the town's heritage, enhance the visitor experience, and create a welcoming destination for visitors and locals alike.
Glenrowan's nationally recognised Ned Kelly story, combined with its wineries, food and drink experiences, and proximity to the Warby-Ovens National Park, make it one of Victoria's most distinctive regional destinations.
The award provides valuable exposure for the town and reinforces Glenrowan's place as an important destination within Victoria's High Country.
Whitfield in the King Valley was also named a finalist in the awards. Renowned for its exceptional food, wine, and hospitality, Whitfield continues to be one of regional Victoria's most sought-after tourism destinations.
Mayor Irene Grant said the recognition was also a reminder of the strength of tourism across the Rural City of Wangaratta.
“Tourism is such an important part of our local economy and identity. This award helps shine a light on the experiences people can enjoy right here in our region, from rich heritage and natural landscapes to food, wine, and genuine country hospitality.”
“We congratulate all finalists and thank the Victorian Tourism Industry Council, the judges, local supporters, and everyone who voted. This is a fantastic result for Glenrowan and a proud moment for the whole Wangaratta region.”
