Transferring pet ownership

If you get a pet from someone else, or if you sell or give your pet to a new owner, you need to transfer the pet's ownership

This will keep the owner details updated for future registration as well as if the pet escapes or is lost.

Transferring ownership is free.

In person

Step 1.Contact the micro-chipping registry 

First, contact the relevant microchipping registry to update the details of ownership  on your microchip.

Step 2.Gather your documents

To transfer ownership, you'll need the following documents

Send a copy of your documents along with a cheque or money order to the Rural City of Wangaratta, PO Box 238, Wangaratta 3676.

Please make cheques payable to "Wangaratta Rural City Council". Please note that receipts will not be issued for mailed payments.
