This workshop explores what loneliness and social isolation are, how they differ, and why they matter. Participants will gain an understanding of the serious impacts loneliness can have on physical health, mental wellbeing and quality of life, as well as why it is an increasing issue across all ages and communities.
The session examines key risk factors that contribute to loneliness and introduces the Conceptual Model of Loneliness as a person‑centred social care assessment tool. This practical framework helps identify individual experiences of loneliness and informs more tailored, compassionate responses.
The workshop concludes with a summary of what we know works - evidence‑based approaches and practical strategies that support social connection and reduce loneliness in real‑world settings.
This workshop will be delivered online via Zoom, or you may attend in person at the Rural City of Wangaratta's Council Chambers.
