Local's Choice - Photography Competition!

The Rural City of Wangaratta invites the community to participate in a unique opportunity to showcase our region's hidden gems. Do you know our region well? Are you nifty with a camera? Perhaps you have a favourite spot you would love to shout about? We believe that the Rural City of Wangaratta has something for everyone, and this is your chance to shine as a local tour guide and influence where friends, family, and other visitors spend their time in our beloved region.

In the lead up to the much-anticipated New Year's Eve event in Wangaratta, Council is holding a Local's Choice Photography Competition. We are asking residents or visitors to capture and share photographs of their favourite spots across the municipality for a chance to win a series of incredible prizes. The winner of each category and grand winner will be announced on 31 December at the New Year's Eve event at the Wangaratta Showgrounds.

To participate, simply capture the essence of the Rural City of Wangaratta through your camera's lens and upload your submission to Council’s new Connect Wangaratta community engagement portal. Extra points will be given for sharing a story or top tip to go along with your photos! Photos must be taken anywhere within the Rural City of Wangaratta municipality, so do not forget to let us know the location of your image.

If taking photos is not your thing but you'd still like to be involved, you are invited to sign-up and vote on the photos submitted by our community.

The seven categories and corresponding prizes:

#localschoiceWonders: Share the beauty of nature. Perhaps wandering the Rail Trail or discovering the splendours of Paradise Falls or Powers Lookout

Prize: A breathtaking 1-hour hot air balloon flight over the King Valley for two, courtesy of Gold Rush Ballooning.

#localschoiceMade: Celebrate local craftsmanship and artisanal goods. Maybe you know a local jeweller, wood turner, honey producer or artist.

Prize: An Olive Shop gift hamper packed with local specialties and valued at $200. A true feast of Wangaratta's finest produce!

#localschoiceActive: Shine a spotlight on healthy and active living, maybe you want to photograph your favourite swim hole, morning run or horse ride.

Prize: A day of cycling exploration with a full-day E-bike rental for 4 people courtesy of West End Cycles.

#localschoiceHistory: Step back in time and capture a fascinating story from our past.

Prize: An engaging family day out in Glenrowan for four, including admission to the Ned Kelly Museum and Homestead, the Kellyland Glenrowan Museum with its Animatronic show, plus a gourmet Hamper basket from Pickled House Hampers.

#localschoiceEats: Showcase Wangaratta's gastronomic delights - your favourite dining and drinking hot spots, and unforgettable farm-gate finds.

Prize: An exquisite five-course dinner for two at Glenbosch Wine Estate.

#localschoiceAdventure: Unleash your adventurous spirit with an open category and surprise us with your exciting adventures across the municipality!

Prize: An adventure-packed visit for a family of four to the Brookfields Maze, including lunch at King River Café.

#LocalsChoice: The best of the best chosen by you!

Prize: An indulgent overnight food and wine escape for two at Pizzini, complete with a set of 6 select bottles of wine.

Submissions and voting will take place through the Rural City of Wangaratta’s new Connect Wangaratta community engagement portal which is now live. Submissions and voting by the public close at midnight on Monday 18 December, so get busy!
