Public gathering

A Public Gathering is a private event which has less than 100 people, such as a wedding, BBQ or birthday party. This may include one piece of low level infrastructure such as a jumping castle, food vendor or marquee. 

You do not need a permit however you will need to register your gathering with us so we can check what other activities are taking place. Please be aware that approval will not give you exclusive use of the space or venue. 

Please ensure you let us know about your gathering at least 14 working days prior.

Step 1.Call us to check availability 

Please contact our Customer Service Team on 03 5722 0888 to check availability of the space or venue.

Step 2.Gather your documents

If the space or venue is free, you'll need to submit the following documents:

If you are having a piece of low level infrastructure (jumping castle, marquee, stage, food vendor), we will also need:

  • Copy of Contractor's Public Liability Insurance with up to $20m coverage 

Step 3.Submit your application

You can submit your applications by:

  • Email to our Events Team on
  • Bring your documents into our Government Centre at 62-68 Ovens Street, Wangaratta. 

We will provide approval via email within 14 days.
