Shape Wangaratta

Do you want to help shape the future of the Rural City of Wangaratta?

We are looking for community minded people to join our new community panel, ‘Shape Wangaratta’.

We would like a large group of diverse people from all ages and backgrounds to help us plan for the future.

As a panel member, you will have the opportunity to share your views on specific topics by participating in activities like surveys, focus groups, workshops or interviews. It’s up to you how much you participate and what you share your thoughts and opinions about. All participation is voluntary.

The inital focus of Shape Wangaratta will be to guide the development of Council's Vision and Council Plan, happening in late 2020 and early 2021.

Send in your Expression of Interest prior to Friday 4 December using the form below.

Why be involved?

•    You will help improve outcomes for your community by ensuring the different perspectives of community members are considered
•    You will be able to choose to be more involved in areas that you are interested or experienced in – like environmental issues, the local economy, or mental health
•    You will become better informed about the Council decision-making process and the topics Council is consulting the community about
•    You will be kept updated about the progress of the projects you participated in

How does this benefit Council?

•    Discovery of new ideas, projects and solutions
•    Broader representation of the community in decision making
•    Insight into community needs and priorities to inform plans, strategies and budgets
•    Stronger and more effective community engagement

What do we need you to do?

•    You’ll be asked for your opinion on a range of different initiatives and services. This could include anything from long term projects to local recreation facility upgrades or services provided by the local library.
•    You will be invited to take part in consultations such as surveys, focus groups and workshops. For now, all of these will take place online, and we will provide support if needed.
•    At times we will need to draw a random group from the panel to provide a representative sample of the community, based on your demographics.
•    When you join, you will be asked some demographic questions about your age, gender and language spoken at home. Knowing a little about people on the panel helps us ensure we are talking to the diverse communities who make up our Community.
•    We don’t need your home address or phone number, but we will need an email address so we can keep in touch with you.

How is the panel selected?

•    To ensure we have a diverse viewpoint on the panel, council will review applications received to ensure there is an even representation of the community that makes up the Rural City of Wangaratta.

How often will we contact you?

•    One of the first big projects we want to work with the panel on is the development of Community Vision, and the 2021 – 2025 Council Plan and Budget. We’ll be in touch at key points over the next eight months to gain your insights, with the majority of engagement occurring over two main periods in December 2020 and February 2021.
•    Ongoing, engagement will happen when key plans and projects need community input. This is likely to be about once a month, but will depend on the kinds of issues you nominate an interest in.
•    If at any stage you wish to not participate that’s completely fine, just let your council contact know and they can remove you from the group.
