Mitchell Avenue Reserve
Mitchell Avenue Reserve spans along Mitchell Avenue, from Cribbes Road to White Street. It is home to Wangaratta’s Splash Park and also features a children’s playground, flying fox, multipurpose sports courts and public amenities.
In late 2016 through to the beginning of 2017 a number of engagement activities were undertaken to determine the future needs for Mitchell Avenue Reserve. This was a commitment Council made after the closure of the Yarrunga Family Swim Centre. It was decided that a Masterplan for the reserve needed to be developed. The Masterplan was completed in early 2018 can be found below.
Proposed improvements to the Reserve identified in the Masterplan include an off leash dog park, an exercise station with several fitness machines, a sensory Children’s Garden, parkour equipment and a BMX pump track. Below you also can find a summary of the community engagement undertaken for the Masterplan.
Council is now working towards implementation of the Masterplan, and with help from the community, the following has been achieved to date:
- Funding has been secured to implement the Dog Park. Construction will take place during the first two weeks of July.
- Exercise equipment was installed at the end of 2018.
- A design has been developed for the Children’s Garden and funding has been received from the State Government to begin implementation of this. Construction will begin in the 2019/2020 financial year.
Attached is a summary of the community engagement undertaken for the design of the Children’s Garden, along with a copy of the Children’s Garden design.
