Enviro Events 2020

We're committed to delivering great sustainability and environmental intitiatives, and this year is no different.

Our Enviro Events program for 2020 is packed with workshops and events that all residents can enjoy! Take part in annual favourites including Clean Up Australia Day and our Spotlight Walk and Talk, or join us for exciting workshops at the Library in March.

2 March | Clean Up Australia Day

Join the Rural City of Wangaratta’s Environment team to learn more about our wonderful native wildlife and clean up along the One Mile Creek. Pizza will be provided and prizes are on offer. Please bring your own water bottle and gloves. Please RSVP by 26th February for catering purposes.

Boomerang Bags Workshop

4 March | Boomerang Bags Workshop

Boomerang bags are free, reusable, & shareable shopping bags, made by community members, for all of the community to use. Come join the Wangaratta Boomerang Bags group to see how bags are created and have a go at making your own.

6 March | Living the Change Documentary - March into Sustainability

Come along to watch the documentary Living the Change that is a feature-length documentary that explores solutions to the global crises we face today – solutions any one of us can be part of – through the inspiring stories of people pioneering change in their own lives and in their communities in order to live in a sustainable and regenerative way.

Breanna and Andrew have a broad collective knowledge of Native Gardening and Wild Flowers from around our area. Join us for a chat, cuppa and scone as they share their knowhow.

Council’s Natural Resource Management and Sustainability team have put together a video which explores the natural habitat and biology of animals including gliders, possums, bats and owls.

31 July | Schools Tree Day

Local schools dig in for the environment to improve habitat at their schools.

2 August | National Tree Day

We have made the difficult decision to cancel our community planting event this year to ensure we all stay safe and comply with Covid-19 restrictions. We look forward to our National Tree Day planting in 2021 where we invite you to learn more about the importance of bush regeneration and riparian vegetation whilst planting a range of trees, shrubs and grasses.

Sustainability Victoria & Council will be holding a workshop about tips for improving energy efficiency at home. More details to follow closer to the date.

30 September and 14 October | Do stuff that matters

Free online series for people aged 16-35. Find out more about invasive species and how you can make a difference for the environment. Hear from awesome people and learn about what other young people, experienced volunteers and professionals are doing across Victoria and Australia, find out what you can get involved in and what impact you can create as well!

This event is a celebration of the Rural City of Wangaratta’s environmental and cultural heritage with interactive displays, stallholders and music for the whole family. More detail will be available closer to the date.

November | Community Garden Day

Join us for an informative tour of the community gardens, find out how you can get involved with a plot of your very own and learn some useful tips on how to grow your own veggies. More detail will be available closer to the date.
