Planning an Event

Thank you for considering the Rural City of Wangaratta to host your next event or festival.  We have some amazing venues and locations for your event and our Events Team is ready to assist you in making your event the best possible. 

Different events may have different requirements before you begin. For simple events, Council has worked to make it as simple as possible, by removing the number of approvals required.

To assist you in your application, please check the category of your event below before starting your application.

Please ensure that your application has been approved before advertising your event.

Contact Events team for event space availability and to confirm your event category. We highly recommend if you are unsure, are organising a high risk event or a new to running events, you talk to the team to set up a pre application meeting.

Event permits are issued for Low, Medium and High Impact Events. Event permits are issued for Low, Medium and High Impact Events. These permits are issued with Standard Conditions which may be viewed here.

If your criteria falls into the “public gathering” section, there is no need for a permit, however you will need to register with our customer service team.

Approval timeframe for your permit

The scale of the event will determine how long may take to process and approve your application. Event organisers should lodge their event permit application with Council as early in the planning stages as possible. Minimum processing times for your application are as follows:

Event Venues

Some Council venues are particularly suited to running events.  Council has prepared event venue plans for commonly used spaces with guidelines for which activity is best suited for these spaces including;
