Down by The River gets Hitched

Wangaratta’s favourite free music festival is hooking up with one of the city’s best musicians to deliver a brand new experience.

Dalls Frasca A Hitch to the Sticks

Down by the River will this year be part of Dallas Frasca’s “A Hitch to the Sticks” festival, which involves a busload of music lovers attending 10 curated music events in the North East over three days.

Frasca has put together the line-up for Down by the River, with local musicians set to provide the entertainment.

Frasca herself will headline with event and will be joined by Monique Brumby (2 time ARIA Award winner), Rambunctious (reforming for the event), Liv Cartledge, The Quick and The Dead, and Tay Oskee.

She said she was excited to team up with Council for the event.

“Down by the River has a great community atmosphere and has really showcased some great musicians in its short history.

“We’re going to build on that and make this an event Wangaratta will absolutely love.

“These are top quality musicians from our own backyard.”

Council's Manager Arts Culture and Events Penny Hargrave said teaming up with Dallas Frasca was a coup for the rural city.

“It is fabulous to continue our relationship with Dallas and bring live music to our city," she said.

"Dallas was one of the first musicians to perform at the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre Opening Festival in 2009 – we loved her then and we love her now.

“We are proud to showcase our home grown talent - music, food,  beer and wine and arts and crafts. This is the genesis of our Down by the River Festival and partnering with Dallas ad her team adds another dimension to the Festival which is now in its 6th iteration.

"We are hoping that all our friends and family will come along to celebrate all that is great in the North East and be surprised and delighted with what is on offer”.

Down by the River will be held on Saturday, 17 March from 4-10pm. The event will be held entirely in Apex Park this year, with roving musicians, gourmet food, twilight markets, local beers and wine and a Sustainability Alley set to compliment the musical offerings.
