Public Question Time
Members of the public are welcome to submit written questions to the council meeting.
A time for answering questions relevant to an agenda item is set aside before consideration of that agenda item. Time is also set aside for answering other questions at the end of the meeting.
Questions must be submitted either electronically or by being lodged at the council office before 10:00am on the meeting day.

Questions from members of the gallery may be considered at the discretion of the Chair.
A maximum of two questions per person, per meeting will be permitted. If a person has submitted two questions to a meeting, the second question may, at the discretion of the Chairperson, be deferred until all other persons who have asked a question have had their questions asked and answered; or may not be asked if the time allotted for public question time has expired. Where questions are divided into parts each part will be considered a separate question.
A question may be disallowed by the Chairperson if the Chairperson determines that it:
- Is in the nature of a statement or is so prefaced as to have its emphasis on a statement rather than a genuine enquiry; or
- Relates to a matter outside the duties, functions and powers of Council; or
- Is defamatory, indecent, abusive, offensive, irrelevant, trivial or objectionable in language or substance; or
- Deals with a subject matter already answered; or
- Is aimed at embarrassing an Administrator or a member of Council staff; or
- Relates to personnel matters; or
- Relates to the personal hardship of any resident or ratepayer; or
- Relates to industrial matters; or
- Relates to contractual matters; or
- Relates to proposed developments; or
- Relates to legal advice; or
- Relates to matters affecting the security of Council property; or
- Relates to any other matter which Council considers would prejudice Council or any person.
Questions will be read by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Your name will be read out at the meeting and recorded in the minutes. Persons must be present in the gallery at the time their question is considered.
The presentation and answering of questions will occur in accord with the printed agenda for the meeting unless a motion is passed to vary the order of items on the agenda.
Like questions may be grouped together and a single answer provided.
The Chief Executive Officer or another member of Council staff nominated by the Chief Executive Officer must respond to a question. The Chief Executive Officer may require a question to be put on notice. If a question is put on notice, a written copy of the answer will be sent to the person who asked the question.
