Impounded Vehicles

The following vehicles are now available for sale.

Rural City of Wangaratta Council has determined the following vehicles as being abandoned within its boundaries and have since been towed and are now being disposed of in accordance with Rural City of Wangaratta Council Local Law No.1 of 2014 and the Local Government Act 1989. Impounded items will be displayed for 14 days and then removed.

How to purchase an Impounded Vehicle

To make an written offer on any of the below vehicles please refer to the lot number of the car you are making an offer for and include your name and contact details.

Offers can be sent to:

By Email: council@wangaratta.vic.gov.au. Please include “Impounded Vehicles” in the subject line.

By Mail: PO Box 238, Wangaratta VIC 3676. Please include “Impounded Vehicles” as the reference.

In Person: You may submit your written offer to Customer Services, Wangaratta Government Centre – Corner Ford and Ovens Street, Wangaratta. Please include “Impounded Vehicles” as the reference to your offer.

Power to remove unregistered or abandoned vehicles

(1) A Council may—

(a) move or impound any unregistered vehicle or vehicle considered by it to be abandoned (and anything in, on or attached to, the vehicle);

(b) keep the vehicle in the place to which it has been moved or any other place;

(c) return the vehicle to its owner on payment of a fee; and

Sch. 11 cl. 3(1)(d) amended by No. 63/2012 s. 28(1).

(d) sell, destroy or give away the vehicle (and anything in, on or attached to, the vehicle) if the owner of the vehicle has not paid the fee within 14 days of the Council impounding the vehicle.

Rural City of Wangaratta Council Local Law No.1 of 2014 states that Council may impound any item that encroaches or obstructs the free use of a public place and any item where breaches of a permit or non-compliance with a notice to comply has been detected. The impounded items listed below are now being disposed of in accordance with Rural City of Wangaratta Council Local Law No.1 of 2014 and the Local Government Act 1989.
