Wangaratta community will ‘be the light’ this World Suicide Prevention Day

Wangaratta Beacon will be lit up in blue and yellow on Friday 10 September in acknowledgement of World Suicide Prevention Day, a day which is about continuing to shine a light on suicide prevention and creating hope through action. Blue and yellow are the colours of the Grit and Resilience program, a community-led initiative that aims to better address and improve mental health and wellbeing and support for those affected by suicide in the Rural City of Wangaratta.

The Grit and Resilience team is asking people across the Rural City of Wangaratta to show the community that there is a light by sharing the ‘be the light’ tile on their social media channels on 10 September, tagging @GritandResilienceProgram and #WSPD2021.

“World Suicide Prevention Day is an opportunity for us as a community to unite, build strength and connection with each other, as we show all members of our community that to prevent suicide requires us to become a beacon of light to those in pain. You can be the light,” said Bek Nash-Webster, Grit and Resilience Program Coordinator.

To download the ‘be the light’ social media tile, simply visit the resources section of Grit and Resilience webpage (www.wangaratta.vic.gov.au/residents/grit-resilience).
