More than 1000 residents contributed to shaping the Rural City of Wangaratta’s priorities.

The recent Shape your Community Survey attracted some 887 responses from adults, and another 215 responses from children.

Responses to the survey will help shape the Rural City of Wangaratta’s Council Plan 2021-25, as well as a vision being developed for the community over the next 12 years.

Mayor Dean Rees said the response was a sign of a passionate, engaged community.

“To have more than 1000 people tell us what they value and what’s important to them means our plan and vision will closely align with community expectations,” he said.

“There will be more opportunities to engage with us over the coming months and I encourage everyone to take those opportunities as they come up.”

The next step in development of the Council Plan and Vision will be six facilitated workshops with the Shape Wangaratta community panel, consisting of 126 community members who nominated for the group last year. Following these sessions the Draft Council Plan and Vision will be developed.

The broader community are also invited to share their stories of living in the Rural City of Wangaratta for the next stage of community consultation. Council staff will be at the Moyhu Farmers Market on 20 March from 8am – 12pm and outside the NAB Bank in Reid Street Wangaratta on 19 March from 9am – 12pm to discuss the plan and interview residents who are prepared to share their stories.

A draft Council Plan and Vision will go to the April Council Meeting to be endorsed for public consultation, at which point community members will be able to view and comment on the documents.
