Rural City of Wangaratta is offering free parking again this festive season to encourage locals to support local businesses during the Christmas shopping period.

Parking will be free throughout Wangaratta’s CBD between Friday 10 December 2021 and Sunday 2 January 2022, although signed time limits still apply.

Mayor Dean Rees said the annual tradition of free parking over Christmas was a way to encourage local residents to shop locally after what has been another tough year for both residents and local business.

“This is Council’s way of helping our residents support local businesses,” he said.

“Local businesses have done it tough over the past couple of years, so we want to encourage people shop locally while also saying thank you to the community who support them,” he said.

Other Council initiatives designed to promote shopping locally this Christmas include: the Buy Small, Make a Big Difference Activity Card; the Be Loyal, Shop Local competition being run by the Wangaratta Chronicle; and the Local Produce Christmas Hampers on sale at the Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre.
