Personal training in public parks

If you wish to conduct paid personal training or exercise classes in a public park or on council land, you will need a permit. This only applies to those who are charging a fee for their services. If you do not charge a fee, then you do not require a permit.

Your permit will allow you to run a maximum of two sessions per day for a duration of one hour per session. 

We offer seasonal permits which provides access to the nominated park/s for six months.

  • Summer Seasonal Permit: 1 October to 31 March
  • Winter Seasonal Permit: 1 April to 30 September

The application fee for the permit is $315.00 per season.

How to apply

Step 1.Read the conditions of permit

It is important you read and agree to the conditions of the permit. This will make sure you are aware of what you can and cannot do.

Submit your application to our Customer Service Team via:

  • Online: Submit your online application. You will need to make payment over the phone or in person.

The application fee of $315.00 must be paid when you lodge your application. This can be done by calling our Customer Service team on 03 5722 0888 or in person at our Government Centre, 62 - 68 Ovens St, Wangaratta.

If the fee is not paid, your application will not proceed.

Step 4.Approval

We will review your application within 10 business days. Once approved, you can commence operation!

Please ensure you only run sessions during your nominated times at your nominated park. If you are caught operating outside the conditions of the permit, you may a fine.

 

  • A Exercise and Personal Training Permit is required when exercise and personal training activities are conducted in public parks where a fee for service is charged.
  • Application is for the nominated public park only and is not transferrable to other council owned or managed parks.
  • Applicant may conduct a maximum of 2 sessions per day for a duration of 1 hour per session.
  • Parklands are to remain accessible for general public use at all times.
  • The application fee for the permit must be paid at the time of lodging your application with Council.
  • It is mandatory that your organisation take out and maintain public liability insurance with an indemnity limit of no less than $10 million during the period of hire of the facility. If a copy of your insurance is not provided your application will not proceed.
  • Organisations booking sportsgrounds under a ‘Seasonal Agreement’ have priority of ground use over casual users.
  • Failure to comply with the agreed conditions of use may result in the cancellation of the permit. No refund will be considered in this instance. 
  • Organisations/Individuals who use a public park for exercise and personal training, for which they charge a fee, without booking through Council may incur a $200 infringement under Local Law 1 of 2018 – Council Amenity.
