The Rural City of Wangaratta operates Bowser Landfill in Wangaratta’s North. The landfill is open to commercial operators only.
In recent years, community expectations regarding landfill management have required environmental standards to become more stringent. This has increased the cost of sending waste to landfill and this trend will continue. EPA recently increased landfill levies sharply, to reduce waste to landfill, increase recycling and create incentives for alternative waste treatment such as ‘waste to energy’ or composting.
It is important to reduce the waste going into Council's landfill.
Residents are able to dispose of green waste at any transfer station for a fee of $5.00 per cubic metre or $2.00 for a small load.
A quarterly calender is delivered to all residents within the municipality detailing new and upgraded services, operating hours for transfer stations and garbage and recycling collection days.Â
