Transfer Stations

Residents of the Rural City of Wangaratta are able to dispose of a variety of material at the transfer stations including:

  • Recyclable Materials - includes timber, concrete and large cardboard items.
  • Garden “green clippings” – consider composting at home.
  • Tyres - from cars, motorcycles, trucks and tractors
  • Household Furniture - includes tables, lounges etc. If they are in good condition residents are encouraged to donate to charities.
  • Fluorescent Light Globes  & Tubes - FREE (non commercial only)
  • Silage Wrap —Accepted FREE in approved clear Plasbak plastic bags at Transfer Stations. Contact Council’s customer service for a brochure.
  • Scrap Metals – FREE

  • Recyclable containers - FREE Glass, aluminium cans, plastics, paper, & cardboard.
  • Used Motor Oil - FREE  (Wangaratta, Markwood and Whitfield Transfer Station only)

  • E-Waste - including small electronic equipment such as computers, televisions and radios.
  • General Waste - includes household waste that is left after you sort out recyclables i.e. rolls of carpet, mattresses and the like.

Many of these items can be recycled if you "GET IT SORTED".  Download the Brochure below.

Residents should separate their recyclables from hardwaste, to help reduce waste going to landfill. Sort your load for easy separation. To find more information on sorting your load visit NevRwaste.

Loads greater than three cubic metres will not be accepted at any site unless prior written approval is obtained.  For loads greater than three cubic metres please contact Council's Environment unit on (03) 5722 0888 or email council@wangaratta.vic.gov.au

Transfer stations are unable to accept asbestos, chemical wastes, hazardous or liquid wastes or wastes specified by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) regulations. For more information on EPA regulations please visit the EPA website

A quarterly calender is delivered to all residents within the municipality detailing new and upgraded services, operating hours for transfer stations and garbage and recycling collection days.

View a copy of Council's Calendar. If you would like a copy, please contact Council's Customer Service team on (03) 5722 0888 or by email council@wangaratta.vic.gov.au.

E-Waste

The Rural City of Wangaratta and NevRwaste are pleased to be able to provide an e-waste recycling program. You are now able to recycle your old, broken or unwanted electronic appliances at the Wangaratta Transfer Station in Sandford Road.

Silage Wrap

Transfer Stations within Wangaratta that receive silage wrappers will only accept silage wrapping if it is clean and contained in a clear plastic bag as provided by Plasback. Farmers can drop off already baled silage wrap until that date.

Farmers in the Victoria are being urged to recycle their silage wrap at the transfer station in their area. The motto is "shake contaminants out of their waste silage wrap, roll it into a tight ball and rattle into town to a recycling station". For further information please contact Council on (03) 57220 888 or download the Silage wrap recycling flyer below.

Used Motor Oil

One litre of used motor oil can contaminate up to one million litres of water.  Do the right thing and take your used motor oil to the Markwood, Wangaratta or Whitfield Transfer Stations FREE OF CHARGE!!

The used motor oil received at the transfer stations is recycled and has many valuable uses including new lubricating oils or for fuel and energy purposes. Used motor oil contains many contaminates including arsenic, lead and magnesium which when released into the environment are toxic. Motor oil seeping into the ground contaminates our soil, streams, rivers, lakes and drinking water.
