Transfer Stations

Transfer Stations

Council’s eight Transfer Stations enable residents to dispose of large items or waste not accepted in kerbside collection.

Residents of the Rural City of Wangaratta are able to dispose of a variety of material at the transfer stations. Many of these items can be recycled if you "GET IT SORTED".  Download the Brochure below.

Residents should separate their recyclables from hardwaste, to help reduce waste going to landfill. Sort your load for easy separation.

Loads greater than three cubic metres will not be accepted at any site unless prior written approval is obtained.  For loads greater than three cubic metres please contact Council on (03) 5722 0888 or email council@wangaratta.vic.gov.au

Transfer stations are unable to accept: car bumpers, gas bottles over 10kg's, used vegetable oil, asbestos, chemical wastes, hazardous or liquid wastes or wastes specified by the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) regulations. For more information on EPA regulations please visit the EPA website

A quarterly calender is delivered to all residents within the municipality detailing transfer station operating hours.

Personal cheques are no longer accepted at rural transfer stations

Council wishes to advise residents that as of the 1 March 2015 personal cheques will no longer be accepted at Boorhaman, Eldorado, Glenrowan, Markwood, Moyhu, Springhurst and Whitfield Transfer Stations. Customers are encouraged to view a copy of the relevant fees and charges below, prior to their visit.

Free Ewaste concluded at local Transfer Stations

Electronic waste (Ewaste) will now incur a waste disposal charge at all Transfer Stations. Recycling of Ewaste had previously attracted funding under the Product Stewardship Agreement supported by the Federal Government. Unfortunately due to a fall in recycling targets this program has discontinued. Residents can download a list of accepted items and disposal charges below.

Silage Wrap

Transfer Stations within Wangaratta that receive silage wrappers will only accept silage wrapping if it is clean and contained in a clear plastic bag as provided by Plasback. Farmers can drop off already baled silage wrap until that date.

Farmers in the Victoria are being urged to recycle their silage wrap at the transfer station in their area. The motto is "shake contaminants out of their waste silage wrap, roll it into a tight ball and rattle into town to a recycling station". For further information please contact Council on (03) 57220 888 or download the Silage wrap recycling flyer below.

Used Motor Oil

The used motor oil received at Transfer Stations is recycled and has many valuable uses including new lubricating oils or for fuel and energy purposes. One litre of used motor oil can contaminate up to one million litres of water.

Do the right thing and take your used motor oil to the Markwood, Wangaratta or Whitfield Transfer Stations FREE OF CHARGE!!

For easy disposal oil must be contained in 5 - 20 litre containers, Council will not accept commercial quantities. Remember to recycle your plastic containers!
