The Rural City of Wangaratta is a vibrant centre for Arts, Culture and Heritage. The region's lifestyle is complemented with a thriving arts community with a number of galleries, festivals and performing arts events occurring throughout the year. Cultural services are provided through the Wangaratta Art Gallery, Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre, Wangaratta Museum and High Country Library.
Wangaratta has a passionate arts community with a diverse range of visual arts experiences offered through the Wangaratta Art Gallery and many other local Galleries along with regular innovative cultural development initiatives delivered throughout the municipality.

The Rural City of Wangaratta is proud of its cultural, social, natural and built heritage. ‘Wangaratta’ is indigenous language for (‘Wonga’- resting place of the wonga (cormorants) and ‘ratta’- meeting place of the rivers). We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land and pay respect to their Elders, past and present.
