Major Projects

Below is a short summary of some of the capital works projects being undertaken by Council during the 2017/18 financial year.

 

Park Lane

Park Lane

The Park Lane project involves installing new kerb and channel between Mayfair Street and Edwards Street. It also involves installing approximately 40 new angle car parks in Park Lane near the entrance to the Barr Reserve. A shared path will also be constructed, linking College Street to Edwards Street. Expected completion early 2018.

Wangaratta Aquatics Strategy

Wangaratta Aquatics Strategy

A new 17m X 12m warm water pool will be constructed at the Wangaratta Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre. Provision will also be made for a 50m outdoor pool to be built adjacent to the WISAC, depending on funding. The warm water pool is expected to be constructed by late 2018.

Barr Reserve Oval 2

Barr Reserve Oval 2

Barr Reserve Oval 2 will be completely reconstructed, with new drainage and a new playing surface to be installed. There will also be AFL training standard lighting installed, allowing for night training to occur. Expected completion is early to mid 2018

North Wangaratta Recreation Reserve

North Wangaratta Recreation Reserve

Work comprises the environmental remediation of the oval and surrounds at North Wangaratta Recreation Reserve, following the discovery of lead in sections of the football oval. Expected completion is early 2018.

Ovens Street and King George Gardens

Ovens Street and King George Gardens

This involves two pedestrian crossings running between the Co-Store and King George Gardens, street lighting, and the replacement of angle parking with parallel parking on Ovens Street. King George Gardens will receive an additional stage and more seating. The project is currently in detailed design stage, and will be presented to Council in 2018 for consideration.

Appin Park Athletics Complex

Appin Park Athletics Complex

Six new 25m high light towers will be installed at Appin Park Athletics Complex, delivering 250 lux, which is Australian hockey standard. Expected completion early 2018

Wareena Park Oval

Wareena Park Oval

This project involved the installation of four light towers with 100 lux lighting. It will enable training to be more evenly spread around the ground. Project was completed in mid 2017.

Merriwa Park Tennis

Merriwa Park Tennis

Some 11 x 12m light poles have been installed at Merriwa Park, allowing for night tennis. Project was completed in mid 2017.

Wangaratta Skate Park

Wangaratta Skate Park

This project involved the installation of shade sails and security lighting at the Wangaratta Skate Park. The project was completed in late 2017.
