Wangaratta is known as the gateway to the high country and spectacular State and National Parks, including the Warby Ovens National Park (incorporating the Warby Ranges State Park and Heritage Ovens River) and the Wobonga Plateau (part of the Alpine National Park). 

Warby Ovens National Park

The Warby Ovens National Park offers camping facilities within Wenhams Camp and Forest Camp including pit toilets and BBQ facilities. More adventurous campers will enjoy camping on the banks or the Lower Ovens River. This is a beautiful river setting however No facilities are provided and tracks can become impassable in wet weather. The National Park provides bush walking, cycling, fishing and boating opportunities.

Alpine National Park

The Alpine National Park provides scenic bushland to enjoy horse riding, 4 wheel driving, bushwalking and fishing. Situated 20km from Whitfield there are several sites that can be accessed with 2 wheel drives including: Paradise Falls, Powers Lookout and Lake William Hovel. Alternatively if you have a 4 wheel drive you can also explore: the Razorback Track, Lake Cobbler, Mt Cobbler and Mt Speculation.
