Information sessions on the proposal to establish an arm's length entity to manage the Wangaratta Saleayrds will be held this Thursday 6 July and Friday 7 July.

WHAT: Information session on the Saleyards Proposal

WHEN: Thursday 6 July 2017, following the Prime Cattle Sale AND Friday, 7 July 2017, following the Monthly Store Sale

WHERE: Wangaratta Saleyards Canteen

In addition to this Council staff will be at the Saleyards for the Prime Cattle Sale each Thursday until 3 August to provide information about the proposal.

Community members can have their say on a proposal to establish a new management structure for the Wangaratta Saleyards.

The proposal would see Council hold all the shares in an “arm’s length entity” operating the Saleyards.

Mayor Ken Clarke OAM said the future management of the Saleyards was a high priority for Council.

“We know that the Saleyards makes a significant economic and employment contribution to Wangaratta’s economy,” he said.

“We also know that the saleyards industry is changing and there is a need to respond to that change.

“This option offers flexibility and freedom from bureaucratic rules, so that the Saleyards can operate more effectively in a largely private business environment.”

A discussion paper outlining the proposal is on public exhibition until 4 August 2017. Copies can be found on Council’s website, at the Wangaratta Government Centre, and in the canteen at the Saleyards.

A $3.7m upgrade of the Saleyards was completed in 2015, making it a state of the art facility with a roof, soft flooring and all abilities access infrastructure.
