Free E-Waste

Free E-Waste Posted: 16-06-2017

Ever wondered what to do with your old computers, phones, batteries, TVs and other electronics?

On Saturday 1 July you can dispose of your e-waste for free at the Wangaratta Transfer Station as a one-off event.

Council is offering this free service in response to a State Government commitment to ban e-waste from landfill in Victoria.

While this ban is not yet in place, Council wants to encourage the community to take advantage of the e-waste recycling service.

Director of Infrastructure Services Alan Clark said materials in many of these items can be recovered and reused, however if they end up in landfill they are toxic.

¬†‚ÄúHazardous metals such as lead and mercury found in many electronics can leach into the environment,‚ÄĚ he said. ¬†

¬†‚ÄúIf you have any electronic items that are unwanted or at the end of their life, make sure you come along.‚ÄĚ

Simply turn up to the Transfer Station, located on Sandford Road, between 10am and 4pm, where you can dispose of up to five items per resident.
