Posted: Council’s Eco Living Project has established a sustainability centre at the HP Barr Reserve. In the next stage of this project, a display food garden will be established to involve and inform residents on the sustainable benefits of home grown food.
This garden will be used to display and communicate gardening practices applicable for the Wangaratta region.

Council’s Sustainability Education Officer, Emma Fuchsen said “The main role of the display food garden is to demonstrate what residents of the Rural City of Wangaratta can achieve in their own backyard gardens”.
The garden will be located at the Eco Living Centre at the HP Barr Reserve and will focus on the importance of growing your own food to become more sustainable.
“We are looking for community members to be involved in the establishment and ongoing use of this garden. People may wish to contribute their years of experience in backyard vegie patches or may just wanting to contribute to a new and exciting community project” said Emma.
Those involved will be able to contribute to the design and layout of the garden beds as well as how the garden can be used for public education. Once the garden is completed, workshops and demonstrations of gardening practices will be offered.
