Blanket appeal to help those in need

Blanket appeal to help those in need Posted: 05-01-2018

Winter might be a distant thought for some, but the Wangaratta Library and Carevan Wangaratta are working hard to ensure that the cooler months are welcomed with warmth by everyone in the community.

In its latest appeal, the Library is calling for donations of knitted or crocheted blankets, to be passed onto Carevan for distribution throughout the community.

This is the third collaborative project undertaken by the Library and Carevan to assist those in need. The first project in 2016 encouraged people to create beanies, followed by scarves in 2017.

“We know how cold nights can get in our area, so we hope these blankets will be able to assist many people,” Library Coordinator Loueen Twyford said.

“Our projects in the past have brought so many people together - we have been overwhelmed by the support and hope we can see the same result this time around,” she said.

The library can only accept donations of completed blankets, which should be approximately 1.2m x 1.8m. Community members can pick up free wool from the library. Donations will be accepted until the end of April.

For assistance with knitting or crocheting, or to create a blanket in a social setting, join the ‘Sit n Knit’ group, who meet weekly on Thursday from 2pm – 5pm at the Library.

For more information or bookings please contact library staff on 5721 2366 or email library@wangaratta.vic.gov.au.
