Bombers and Saints to launch the new Wangaratta Showgrounds Posted: 26/10/2011

The launch of the Showgrounds Redevelopment on Saturday 3 March 2012 is set to be a huge event, coinciding with a NAB Cup game between two AFL powerhouses!

In November, the AFL released the draw for the 2012 NAB Cup  and the revamped pre-season competition features the Wangaratta Showgrounds as the host of a regional game, which will see Essendon and St Kilda face off in Round 3 of the competition.

Tickets for the game will go on sale Monday 6 February @ 9:00am.

You can purchase tickets online, in person or over the phone from the Wangaratta Performing Arts Centre Box Office from this date.

“Council is absolutely delighted that two of last year’s finalists, Essendon and St Kilda, will play in the inaugural match,” said Doug Sharp, Council’s Chief Executive Officer.

“Both the AFL and Council are anticipating that a bumper crowd will attend, given the quality of the two sides and there strong supporter bases.

“This will be the ideal way to showcase the new facilities.  The game will be played under lights, starting at 7.00pm, with the prospect of a local curtain raiser to whet the crowds appetite,” said Mr Sharp.

The official launch of the $2.9 million Wangaratta Showgrounds redevelopment project will be attended by representatives from the State Government, the AFL and Council.

Mr Sharp encouraged all football fans to attend the match.

“In the past we have rarely had the opportunity, here in Wangaratta, to see the standard of football we can expect from these two great clubs,” he said.

“Our new facilities have been a long time coming, but those in attendance will witness the dawning of a new era for football in Wangaratta. One that will cement Wangaratta as the Australian Rules football hub of the region.”
