Posted: 03/08/2012The Annual Victorian Tourism Week is on again this September 3-8 and the Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre will once again be participating in this statewide event.
The aim of Victoria Tourism Week is to educate people about the social and economic contribution the tourism industry brings to the community. It was created by a ground swell of interest from the tourism industry and offers an opportunity to get together and celebrate the best things about tourism.
“Victoria Tourism Industry Council and the Rural City of Wangaratta want the entire community to get a better understanding of how tourism works and have the opportunity to participate. All events hosted as part of Tourism Week are free to attend and we invite business operators and the community to take part in the activities,” commented Emma Keith, the Rural City of Wangaratta’s Tourism Development Officer.
Tourism Week activities, at the Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre, will include a Taste the Region – Open Evening on Wednesday 5 September, plus a photography exhibition by Ewen Bell and a ‘Wine of the Month’ initiative for the entire month of September.
King Valley Prosecco Road will be the feature at the Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre Open Evening on Wednesday 5 September between 5.30pm and 7.30pm, with attendees enjoying a complimentary glass of local Prosecco on arrival. The evening will provide an opportunity for the community and businesses to network and taste produce of the region. All are welcome to this free event.
This year the Wangaratta Visitor Information Centre will also be introducing a ‘Wine of the Month’ local wine pour concept, with eleven restaurants in central Wangaratta participating.
“The idea behind the local wine pour is to celebrate our region’s outstanding wines and the many local restaurants throughout Wangaratta. During the month of September we will be encouraging the local community to discover a new restaurant, or support an old favourite, by purchasing a glass of local wine. It’s an opportunity to try a new local drop whilst dining out with friends and family this September as we celebrate our regional strengths – food & wine!” said Ms Keith.
Restaurants participating in the ‘Wine of the Month’ promotion include Rinaldo’s Casa Cucina, Watermarc, Café the PreVue, Sydney Hotel, Café Martini, Scribblers, Prim’s Espresso Cafe, Atrium Restaurant, Switch, Wangaratta RSL and the Wangaratta Club.
